I’m sure you’ve probably heard the old saying, “Don’t talk about politics at work!”
Well why not!? If you work full time like I do, you spend most of your life with your coworkers, and to some extent they are sometimes closer then family. You don’t even need to bring up any issues. What I did was buy some of the “World’s Smallest Political Quiz” cards, and handed them out to my coworkers. Most of my coworkers aren’t much into politics so getting this card was the first chance many of them have gotten a chance to identify with a certain political party.
I was surprised at the results. All of them self-identified as Libertarian with no outside influence! One particular woman who I know is an avid Obama supporter, thought that cutting taxes and spending by 50% and replacing government welfare with private charity was a good idea, and both ideas she supports. She actually scored more right Libertarian then left because she doesn’t support legalizing cannabis.
Handing out these cards was a great start to give them the chance to self-identify as Libertarian on their own time. Then when they have questions you can have a deeper discussion, and most times out of not, come up with a viable Libertarian solution. Our ideas aren’t fringe or radical, they are what most people are thinking and feeling, they are fed up with the status quo.
We as Libertarians need to show we care by starting and ending the conversation on all of OUR issues. WE cannot let the Democrats and Republicans steal our issues and take credit for them.
