An amazing thing is happening in Colorado and Washington States as well as in other states around the country (for a full list of Libertarian campaigns go here). Libertarians who have no political organizing or campaign experience whatsoever are stepping up to run for office and taking on leadership roles of all sizes. As of today (2/6/16) there are 29 Libertarian candidates in WA and 11 candidates in CO preparing to run for office, and these numbers will continue to grow through the efforts of passionate Libertarian activists...
The idea of running for political office is daunting for most people. The term, “political science” is used to deter people from getting active in politics. This college major was created to prep future generations for a career in controlling the masses, theft through increased taxation, the erosion of our economic and civil liberties, and perpetuating the power of people in government. There is an underlying belief that a degree in political science or law is needed to be able to make any significant political improvements to the current system of corruption and cronyism.
We have come to the conclusion that this belief is BS (and I’m not referring to a Bachelor of Science degree.) Every skill needed to be successful can be learned. Communications, emotional intelligence, public speaking, motivating others, analyzing legislation, raising money, you get the picture. Success in politics comes down to one attribute, our willingness to stretch our comfort zones by learning and mastering new skills.
There is always fear in doing something new. In going after a goal that will most likely result in early failure. However, if we persevere longer, our odds of success will increase. I always advise candidates to run for office a minimum of 3 times. Each time they run, their skill level and campaign organization and infrastructure will grow bigger and more effective. We can then use those skills in the future to run for office again or help organize and grow other campaigns. I’ve learned a lot in the last 5 election cycles I have played an active role in, and I could only learn these skills and get better by being involved and taking action.
Contrary to popular belief; practice doesn’t make perfect, it makes better. Knowledge is not power, the use of knowledge is power. “The Secret” and the law of attraction is an incomplete concept; it is great to think positive thoughts about what you want in life, but it is imperative to think positive thoughts and follow them up with positive actions. The “Law of Attraction” is a false name, in actuality it is the concept of moving closer to what you want in life through action.
It is only through experiential knowledge gained from taking action that will allow us to earn success. It is only through failing and falling a few times before we have the skills and strength to provide ourselves and future generations a world of progress and human advancement through implementing Libertarian solutions.
2012 and 2014 were both years of record vote totals for Libertarian candidates around the country and with 2016 shaping up to have the Libertarian Party as the main voice for the Liberty movement, we are poised for a major breakthrough.
With over 200 seats up for election in both Washington and Colorado, now is the time to build the Libertarian Party into a major political force. Now is the time to unite for liberty. Imagine what will happen when we do something that has never been done before, when we start electing Libertarian candidates to state office. This will inspire and motivate new Libertarian candidates and activists worldwide!
There are a few things you can do to get involved:
Together we will take an idea and make it reality. We will start from the bottom and build a movement, by building ourselves. Thank you.
